Yeasayer Live in November 2008

I finally saw Yeasayer last night. It is one of the best shows I have ever seen. My girlfriend and I got there 15 minutes after the doors opened. There were probably only another 20 people at Bimbos by this time. I went up and took some pictures of the stage (first photo below). It was cool that they had both bands’ equipment set up: the opening act, Icy Demons, and headliner Yeasayer. There were a few interesting instruments on stage and it gave off a feeling that tonight was going to be special and that great music was going to be performed.

Icy Demons were pretty funky. They had recently set out with Yeasayer on tour. The Chicago band, in my opinion, surprised the small audience and had everyone dancing and jolly. At about the time they were finishing up, Bimbos was filling up. Even by show time, the crowd was never as big as the Minus the Bear concert. I liked that. It’s fun to have a packed house and crowd which which to experience great music, but I don’t enjoy being bumped and not being able to see.

Yeasayer kicked ass! There is no other way to say it. I try to refrain from using profanity on the site, but that is what just comes out onto my blog. The lead singer put on a great show on the keyboards. My favorite is guitarist Anand Wilder, who has a classic rock style. I just knew he was out of Brooklyn. He has the look which us Brooklyn natives can spot a mile away. I remember him most from the video of their song 2080, which happens to be my favorite song by Yeasayer.

It’s a guarantee that I write a post about that song, as that is my favorite song now and has been for the past few months.  I fell in love with Yeasayer after seeing the video on this awesome French music video site.

Yeasayer Concert in San Francisco

I’m going to see Yeasayer in concert this Saturday here in San Francisco at Bimbos. After seeing Minus the Bear live last night, I’m really really excited for Friday. I’ve been reading online that Yeasayer in concert is a great experience.

Since I’ve been super busy I have yet to write about the group, but to sum it up their style, I would say it is a blend of indie rock and world music. Yeasayer is said to put on a killer concert. They’re from my hometown of Brooklyn, New York. I was actually just back in Brooklyn where a good number of my relatives and grandparents still live.

Bay Ridge, where my grandparents reside, has changed greatly. I can’t hear that enough from my grandparents who have been there since the 1920s. Sidetracking, but quite humorous, my grandparents said not long ago a brownstone down the block went on the market through the owner. The open house was set for the upcoming weekend. That weekend over 100 Chinese people were outside interested in the real estate.

The police were actually called as neighbors thought a riot or protest was taking place. The neighborhood has become heavily populated with Chinese immigrants. My grandparents say they are really friendly and have cash to pay for the houses selling in the $900,000s.

Back on track, I’ll be sure to review the Yeasayer concert and delve more deeply into why they are one of my top bands right now.
