Late again and another year past. I wish for a new blog design this year, if I can schedule in the time with my overall laziness. I put a lot of thought into the list. The top five was just following my gut instinct, while anything below the top ten was a real struggle. Even though 2008 was definitely not the best year in music (sorry haters), I had a harder time sorting these out than in my 2007 list . Mainly because I unexpectedly had a lot of new discoveries genre wise.

Finally the festival is here

For the past few weeks I have been writing about the upcoming Treasure Island Music Festival. Well it is just hours before the start of Day 1 and I am super psyched.

My day will start off with Passion Pit at 2:50pm. It’ll be the first time seeing these guys so I am really looking forward to that. After that, Dan Deacon, MSTRKRFT, Girl Talk, and MGMT… The weather looks great and should be a beautiful day on Treasure Island. I will be sure to grab photos. You will get my take on the festival sometime tomorrow. Unfortunately, I will be unable to go tomorrow but have enough friends going that I may ask them to fill in as a guest writer for Best Indie Rock.

A year ago the Whigs’ “RIght Hand On My Heart” set our hair on fire just like the 90s alt-rock it borrowed still does. The Athens trio has just released a brand new track into the wilds of the Interweb, and though it doesn’t buzz with the same crunch, “In The Dark” jams nonetheless. Come to think of it, aside from those serrated guitars, there might be a soft melody in there as close to the Killers at these dudes should wander. Are you thinking about picking the saxophone up for the first time? The person who invented the saxophone to begin with, a man named Adolphe Sax, drew up plans for a total of fourteen different types of saxophones. There are at least eleven different types of saxophones out there, with ten different voices or types that are the most popular to pick up. The ten different voices of the saxophone are: – Sopranissimo – Sopranino – Soprano – Saxello – Alto – C melody – Tenor – Baritone – Bass – Contrabass – Subcontrabass Two of the most popularly followed saxophones are the alto saxophone and the tenor saxophone.

Bands back on at Harley’s?kungfuology.com
10/04/2009
No sooner had I put up this Harley’s Bar old pic and blabbed about it in my nostalgia post , I came across a flyer online advertising a new rock night with a band there. Blimey, it must be going on three years since there were any significant gigs on there. So, the flyer comes courtesy of Smart Shanghai here so Morgan Short must be the man with the lowdown on the show. He’s on his hols now though so I won’t bother him. Unless he wants to come on the comments that is.
