Friday night we went to a highly anticipated A Hawk and a Hacksaw live show at the Independent in San Francisco. It was about a year ago we had seen them at the same venue, so we had our expectations set.
Unfortunately, we were not that impressed with the show and do not have much to say about it. The highlight of the show was when the group all came into the audience and played a few songs. It had everyone around them engaged and happy. But besides that, the audience was rather dead and immobile. I do not know if it was because everyone was out of it or what, but for us, we were expecting to hear a decent amount of old songs. We were unfamiliar with their new album so all we could do was dance amongst each other and take it for what it was worth.
We did happen to meet A Hawk and a Hacksaw afterwords and they were all really friendly people. They even were nice enough to sign their album for me. I got the setlist too, so I will be sure to post in the next day or two.
The Flaming Lips are on this year’s lineup of bands playing at the Treasure Island Music Festival. I have yet to see them live so it should be pretty sweet to see them in San Francisco. They are the headliners for Sunday October 18, 2009 , then heading off to Europe to tour for the month of November (so jealous of them).
I started listening to The Flaming Lips in 2004, when I purchased their album Fight Test. “Do You Realize??” blew me away. I sure hope they do that track at the festival. I will definitely provide my feedback of each band post festival.
Only three weeks away from the 2009 Treasure Island Music Festival. One of the bands I am most excited to see is Beirut. The indie band out of Santa Fe, New Mexico will be back in San Francisco after a year’s break and will be on stage Day 2, October 18, 2009.
I don’t have much time to write, but just wanted to share what I’ve been thinking about all day: the Treasure Island Music Festival for 2009! Now only 5 weeks away, I suggest you make sure you get your tickets before it it too late.
